BRANCH OFFICES
Branch offices began in July 1924 with 37 established.  The number of offices
increased as follows:  38 1929, 46 1930, 45 1935, 47 1937, 57 1941, 61 1948, 66 1949,
69 1950, 79 1955, 85 1958.  The Carolina Motor Club staffed the offices at the request
of the Secretary of State until 1/1/1963, when 70 offices were taken over by
the state, and the 9 largest city offices were set to transition in early 1963.
 
Complete branch office assignments 1965, 1969, 1970 in County Code Book, 1971
on file. Draper, Leaksville and Spray became Eden in 1968, also reflected
in city tags.  Issued by Raleigh and 94, 96, 97 and 98 offices, respectively.
 
Numbers were rotated among different cities annually.
